This is my traditional season opener as a competitor. I find I need to concentrate on racing, and it has become my habit not to take a camera to this meeting. So, sorry, I have no photos.

SCVAC Indoor Championships, Lee Valley,

I won 60 metres and 200 metres gold medals at these Championships, so bear in mind that such photographs as I did manage to take were fitted around warming up for my events, waiting to start, and so on. That's not meant really as an apology. I'm not going to apologise for being unable to do everything and be everywhere!

UK Masters Inter-Area Challenge Match, Solihull

In my view, this was not one of the best Inter Area events that has been held. No team sheets were available to commentators, results keepers or the photographer, no interim match scores were given, and to cap everything, there was a headwind gusting to over 4 metres a second down the home straight for much of the day. It was also, despite this, one of the hottest afternoons of the year and very energy sapping conditions. I'd recommend the format and content of the event should be reviewed thoroughly before the 2017 edition.
Although I took photographs of the first half of the event, or so, I had two races later, so had to stop shooting and warm up. This is never an easy event for a single photographer to cover, and especially hard for one who also races.

Southern Counties Masters League Final, Ashford

My own Club's men's team hasn't qualified for the League Final for a few years now, but our women's side have become regulars there. Well done to Southampton AC who won the men's competition (again) and Espom & Ewell AC, winners of the women's match (again).

I have been asked several times why I do not have photographs from the 2016 BMAF Championships on my web site? The answer is really quite simple. For reasons I won't go into here, I was not able to be there.

World Masters Athletics Championships
Perth, Australia, late October to early November 2016
Several readers of this web site have also asked me why I have no photos on it from the WMA World Masters in Perth. I had never intended to go to Perth. The principal reason for this was that more than a year previously, I had committed to holding a major exhibition of some of my landscape photography throughout November 2016. And, just in case anyone asks me, I will not be travelling to Daegu in South Korea next March for the World Masters Indoors. Too far to go, for far too little, and at far too much expense.
